4mm Flat Gold Plated Chain – 24 in / 60 cm, Oro Laminado

    $16.90

Gold-plated chains to wear on their own or to carry your medal. Rope, figaro, Cuban, mariner and box links in the widths that hold a pendant well, with lobster clasps and a warm gold finish that matches the medals in the store.

Which width for which pendant

A 1–2 mm box or cable chain is right for small medals under 2.5 cm. A 3–4 mm rope or figaro chain carries medium pendants and is the most popular all-round choice for San Judas and Guadalupe medals. A 5–6 mm Cuban or rope chain is for large statement pendants and for wearing on its own.

Which length

16–18 inches sits at the collarbone and suits small medals and women's pieces. 20 inches is the everyday length for most men's medals. 22–24 inches lets a large pendant hang over the chest, over a shirt. If you are buying a gift and are unsure, 20 inches is the safe choice.

Oro laminado or gold-tone steel?

Gold plating over brass (oro laminado) has the warmest, most gold-like color; gold-tone stainless steel is tougher for daily wear. Each listing states which one it is, with the exact width, length, link type and clasp.

Care

Take the chain off before showering, swimming or exercising, and wipe it with a soft cloth. Free U.S. shipping on orders over $49.

Gold-plated chains

The right chain makes a medal look its best. This collection includes chains sold on their own, ready to wear by themselves or with a medal or pendant you already have.

Each product page lists the chain style, width, length and clasp.

How to choose a chain for your medal

  • Width: the chain should look strong enough to carry the pendant; larger medals look best on thicker chains.
  • Length: 18–20" sits near the collarbone; 22–24" sits on the chest, over clothing.
  • Fit: check that the chain and its clasp pass through the medal's bail.

See our size guide for measuring tips.

Which chain style is right for me?

Flat chains are sleek and lie close to the skin; rope chains catch the light and look fuller; figaro and cuban links give a classic, bolder look.

How do I keep a gold-plated chain shiny?

Avoid water, perfume and lotions, and store it separately. Read What does 18K gold-plated mean?
